Volcanoes Are Monuments to Earth's Origin, Evidence That its Primordial Forces Are Still at Work
During a volcanic eruption, we are reminded that our planet is an ever-changing environment whose basic processes are beyond human control. As much as we have altered the face of the Earth to suit our needs, we can only stand in awe before the power of an eruption.Today Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park displays the results of at least 70 million years of volcanism, migration, and evolution in the Hawaiian Island.
Get ready for this epic adventure through Hilo’s hidden gems and Volcano National Park. Where you can see places unlike anywhere else in Hawaii (maybe even the planet?) With views that stare across carved and collapsed mountains of stone intertwined with indigenous forests. Landscapes that stretch between old Hawaiian foot paths and fresh lava flows and an ocean color so blue it’s understandable that it drops off more than a thousand feet below. And to think, your walking on top of one of the worlds most active volcanoes. From towering trees from old growth rain forest to bellowing steam vents escaping the broken ground across wide open walkways into mind blowing lava tubes. Large Ohia tree roots break through the rocky surfaces to collect water from the cool moisture in the air. Take notice and look and listen for some of the last endangered native Hawaiian birds. A true experience in the history of old and new earth. Here, where the first working native hands created Hawaiian petroglyphs and the surf created natural stone sea arches that touch the warm pacific waters. Stunning views and unforgettable hikes can barely describe the beauty and diversity of this amazing trip. From scientists to six year-olds, there is always something new to see and learn.
